Rebalance Breath
This weekend I was in Chicago training with Donna Parise-Byrne and Sarah Petrich of Rebalance Pilates for a breath, posture, and Pilates workshop. I‘m walking away from this training thinking differently about posture, and I am so excited to get back to LA later this week to share the new knowledge.
”Good posture” is so much bigger and more dynamic than just standing up straight and rolling your shoulders back. We typically think of posture as the position in which someone holds their body, and we tend to assume that posture is something we can train through control of the musculoskeletal system. But posture is not a choice to position one system a certain way; instead, it’s a reflection of the combined influence of all body systems. Posture happens from the inside out and it is in large part powered by your patterns of breathing.
In other words, as Donna said to me this weekend, “if you have to think about your posture, you’re compensating.“
So, stop rolling the shoulders back and start noticing how and where you breathe in your body.
