On the Road

This past week I spent road tripping from Seattle to San Francisco. We tasted wine and hiked the redwoods and drove along the Oregon and California coasts.

There’s also the unexpected that will always intrude, no matter how much you try to plan. But that’s what I tend to like most about being on the road - the suprises and detours, the spur of the moment alterations, the bending to the flow of energy in the group.

There’s so much I did this past week that I wouldn’t have done without the influence of my roadtrip partners. It reminds me of how redwood trees grow. Despite being the tallest trees on Earth (more than 300 feet!), their roots only extend 6-12 feet down into the earth but spread out to 100 feet from the tree’s base, intertwining with the roots of others and creating greater stability for each individual tree.

There are moments when we grow upwards, reaching toward the sky, fulfilling our own potential. There are also moments where we grow down and out, rooting into our community and learning how we relate to others.

That’s where I’m coming from this week. Looking forward to getting back on the mat with y’all.
