Fluid in Body and Mind

A friend sent this to me this week and it resonated:

"The water in your body is just visiting. It was a thunderstorm a week ago. It will be the ocean soon enough. Most of your cells come and go like the morning dew. We are more weather than stone monument. Sunlight on mist. Summer lightning. Your choices outweigh your substance."

Everything is temporary.

Most of the pain and suffering we experience in this life is the result of our attachment to our expectations, to the past, to familiarity.

But we are more fluid than we appear. Humans are 70% water of course.

Every inhale and every exhale we have the opportunity to practice this delicate balance, to let things arrive in our consciousness and let them leave. Eventually our flesh and bones will fertilize the soil of the next generation's crops and everything we have known and loved in this life will be gone. This is why so many of us are fearful of death: it requires us to let go of everything we have ever known.

But today we can be grateful that we have this moment, while also realizing that it will be over before we know it.
