Open to the Possibilities

This week I’m writing to you as a student.

A couple times a year I take trainings to refresh my skills, build out my toolbox, and expose myself to new ideas about movement and the body. During the pandemic I found so much value in being a student when it felt like the world was going to collapse. It brought me back to who I am at my core - naturally curious and naturally driven to apply what I learn.

For the past few months I’ve felt stagnant, slightly stuck in what I know and what to do with it.

So when a colleague invited me to join them in retaking a Postural Respiration course, I dove right in. We spent our Halloweekend discussing the differences between the left and right diaphragm and how those differences power our movement patterns. And I loved every minute of it, despite the 6am start times. I got bit by the learning bug all over again.

It pushed me to finally sign up for Equinox’s mat Pilates training I had been contemplating for weeks; now I’ll be finished in the next few days. In December I’ll fly to Chicago for a Pilates training with Re-Balance Pilates. And in January I’ve already got my eye on another Postural Restoration course about impingement and instability.

Learning reminds me how I can show up as my best self: patient, attentive, open to the possibilities and existing in the present moment. That’s what I’m carrying into this week.
