The More Light There Will Be

Today is my 28th birthday. This year I took the day off (weekly Zoom class is moved to Thursday night) and am spending it hiking and enjoying a beautiful dinner with my boyfriend Dylan. And I read this poem to ring in another year here. This is “The Laughing Heart” by Charles Bukowski:

your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.

There have been times this year that it felt like my life was being clubbed into dank submission. Times where I felt disconnected from source, from creativity, from expansion and light. And this, this little newsletter, has been one of the few chances offered to escape that feeling. This is a place of creativity and connection for me, and I hope it provides you with some sort of value. Thank you for spending some part of your day reading what I share here. It means the world to me.
