Inside the Body

Humans have this cool skill called interoception. It’s the ability to sense internal signals from your body.

So we can sense when our stomach is full or empty, if our heart is beating fast or slow, if our lungs are full or empty. We can also sense if our heart is lonely and in need of connection or if our brain is over-stimulated by our environment.

It’s what keeps us alive, keeps us breathing, eating, drinking, seeking fulfillment of our curiosity and our need for connection.

The better we get at sensing these things - and paying attention to and acting on them - the more balanced we become in mind and body.

Take a moment today and notice stomach, lungs, heart, and head - what’s full and what’s empty? What are you in need of and what do you have to share?
