The Fabric of the World

What if we loved ourselves as much as the places we love? What if we could see our own beauty as that of nature? Not separate or distinct from it but a part of it. Today I'm sharing work on that subject from Alan Watts and Mary Oliver.

In "Poem of the One World," Oliver writes:

“This morning

the beautiful white heron

was floating along above the water

and then into the sky of this

the one world

we all belong to

where everything

sooner or later

is a part of everything else

which thought made me feel

for a little while

quite beautiful myself.”

In those moments where we feel unwanted, unworthy, not enough, or perhaps that we do not belong, the breath comforts me. Breath is the reminder that we are part of the world and the world is part of us. With every inhale, we draw the world inside of our bodies. And with every exhale, we share some of ourselves with the world.
